Meteorologists Find a New Home in the Ocean, with the US Navy

The Navy Oceanography/Meteorology field is the perfect career for those that have a love for the ocean and an interest in the weather. Oceanography/Meteorology Officers work to provide information on weather forecasts and conduct studies of the climate that are used by the military for both tactical and garrison operations. These US Navy officers also work to comply with military regulations that govern the activities of the METOC (Mission Essential Meteorological and Oceanographic Center).

Train to Watch the Weather and Change the World with the Navy

Those training to serve as Navy Oceanography/Meteorology Officers will need to place a high emphasis on both research and educational materials. Specialized training is given to these officers in order to teach them how to correctly identify weather patterns and ocean conditions that would pose a threat to those ships in an area experiencing adverse weather. Basic Oceanography Accession Training is the name of the specific training that those interested in Navy jobs in Oceanography field will undergo. This BOAT training teaches interested personnel the fundamentals working on and in the ocean.

Civilian Life after a Career as US Navy Oceanographer/Meteorologist

After leaving the Navy, Oceanographers and Meteorologist may use the unique training that they have received to secure many different civilian careers. Many may find a position within a government agency after completing Oceanography/Meteorology Navy jobs. Those specializing in Meteorology may choose to seek work with commercial airlines.
