US Navy Submarine Officers Dive off the Deep End

Navy Submarine Officers have one of the most exciting and engaging careers in the Navy. Submarine personnel get to explore the vast underwater world. Submarine Officers work to ensure that the systems of the submarine work properly, chart the position of the sub and maintain the onboard equipment used to gather information with regard to intelligence and tactical communications.
Navy Training is Off the Charts
Training for a US Navy Submarine Officer begins with US Officer Candidate School. After OCS, personnel must complete a series of specialty training in order to serve on a US Navy vessel. The next progression in the training is a 24 week course in Naval Nuclear Power Training Command. This is a graduate level training that involves intensive studying of the nuclear propulsion engine. The next step in the training process is a 26 week course known as Nuclear Power Training Unit or NPTU. This training allows trainees to study how nuclear propulsion plants work on a complete scale. After this training, Navy Officers will then spend 12 weeks learning the intricate operations of a submarine vessel and then move on to an assignment on a submarine as a division Officer.

Securing a Future after the Navy
While being a Submarine Officer is one of the most sought after Navy jobs, US Navy Officers must consider the career they will seek after leaving the Navy. Many Military retirees are able to secure positions at the executive management level in the industries of technology and technical systems.
