Work With Navy Minds

The Army, Navy and other Military branches need research psychologists to protect and ensure the mental and emotional stability of service members. The research psychologist conducts research, testing and evaluations to develop exercises and products to strengthen the mental and emotional aspects of each service member because mental strength is as important as physical fitness.

Navy Research Psychologist Requirements

The US navy holds specific requirements for all officers employed in the Navy Medical Service Corps. In addition to the basic medical requirements, the Navy also requires that candidates for research psychology positions have formal educations and doctorate degrees in one of the following areas of concentration in psychology: physiological, human factors, social, experimental, personnel, cognitive and neuroscience. Candidates may also work in this career without a degree if they have a status of “all but dissertation” but they must complete a degree program within 3 years of beginning Naval service.

Navy Research Psychologists as Veterans

A career as a research psychologist does not have to end when a service member retires from active duty. As a Navy officer, research psychologists often continue Navy service until reaching civilian retirement age and retiring completely from work. Early Navy retirees have career opportunities in civilian positions for private corporations, universities and even for the government studying how people think, feel, act and learn.
